This golden autumn, October of 2006, witnesses the 50th anniversary of Jiangxi Vocational and Technical College of Information Application (short as JXCIA). Over the past five decades, tens of thousands of graduates have been all over the country and become useful members of society; Over the past five decades, we have worked with hardworking and enterprising spirit to develop our college and make our due contributions to the course of vocational education; Over the past five decades, we have enjoyed unselfish care from all leaders, alumnus and friends from all circles in the construction, reform and development of our college; Over the five decades, all staff ,members have devoted a lot to the development of our college. Today, we inherit the past and forge ahead into the future.
JXCIA is located in Nanchang crowned “the hero city”, being the only higher vocational college specialized in information in Jiangxi. In October, 1956, Jiangxi Meteorology Bureau organized the first training class for meteorology cadres in Yushan County, which pulled the prologue of running a school. Hereafter, Jiangxi Meteorology Bureau continued setting up meteorology class in Jiangxi Hydropower School. In1977, a new school,Nanchang Meteorology School, was established in Qingyunpu District, Nanchang. The school was managed by China Meteorology Bureau between 1980 and 2000. After that , it has been under the management of the provincial government of Jiangxi and Jiangxi Meteorology Bureau. The honor of national key secondary school was awarded to the school in 1994 and 1999, which laid good foundation for the further development of school. Nanchang Meteorology School was upgraded to a college with the approval of the provincial government of Jiangxi in April, 2002, and was renamed Jiangxi Vocational and Technical College of Information Application. Over half of the century, under the care and leadership of China Meteorology Bureau, Jiangxi Meteorology bureau, Jiangxi Education Department, and with efforts of all staff members, our college continuously deepens reforms , improves qualities, consolidates academic achievements and develops steadily, displaying a picture of prosperity and exuberance.
A profound culture deposits after fifty years’ development. While promoting competence-oriented education fully, the college enhances moral education among students and achieves a lot in the construction of spiritual civilization and college culture. The college has evolved its ethos: “civility, harmony, pioneering, devotion”, the teaching attitude: “morality, rigorousness, cooperation, action.”, and the academic discipline:“sensible, diligent, aspiring, practicing.” Meanwhile, we have been improving our college conditions and hoisting our discipline and specialty construction to a new level. Currently, the college offers more than 21 specialties concerning thunder protection engineering, atmospheric sounding, computer application, electronic technology, business English, leisure sports, computerized artistic design, some of which are fairly competitive and brand specialties. The total enrollment amounts to nearly 5,000. Some excellent courses have been listed as provincial-level key courses. The construction of Teaching staff is being strengthened. Now, there are more than 50 associated professors and professors, 60 lecturers, and more than 20 teachers with a master’s degree. Five teachers are awarded the title of “young-and-middle mainstay teachers” in provincial colleges and universities, and one teacher “famous teacher”. The college also employs foreign teachers. Achievements in scientific research are fruitful: there are more than 34 provincial research projects, more than 10 department projects, and 15 monographs. A lot of teachers won scientific research awards of provincial and city level. Many students won prizes in provincial and national competitions. Tremendous changes have taken place in the management and teaching methods, with more power transferred to department.
Recalling the past is to stimulate the present and predict the future. Each precious photograph in the album records 50 years’ development of Jiangxi Vocational and Technical College of Information Application, exhibiting the spiritual status of all staff members, students and alumnus.
Looking into the future, we are full of enthusiasm. Time requires us to seize the opportunity ,meet the challenge, forge ahead with an innovative and pioneering spirit and work with earnest attitudes.We must keep up with the time, follow scientific development perspective, emphasize mentality and sustainable development, run our college according to people’s requirements for a desired education, hold on to the policy of establishing a college with a slogan: “service, employment, society and market-----our priority”, stick to our principle to “impart knowledge, and cultivate competitive students”, maintain the college’s admonition—“faithful, learned and versatile, innovative, factulistic”, run our college by quality, create excellence by our own features, and try our best to develop our college into a vocational and technical college which will be first-class in Jiangxi province, famous around the country, and be able to compete in the international communications field.
